You don't need expensive equipment or a complicated setup to make a better cup of coffee.
Sometimes the biggest difference comes from getting a few simple things right.
Here are three easy ways to make your morning coffee better.
1. Start With Good, Fresh Coffee
Coffee doesn't stay at its best forever.
Once coffee is roasted, the flavors and aromas that make a great cup special begin to change over time. Starting with quality coffee that's been roasted fresh can make a noticeable difference in what ends up in your cup.
That's one reason we're big believers in fresh-roasted coffee at Spurred Up Coffee Co.
2. Get Your Coffee-to-Water Ratio Right
If your coffee tastes weak, bitter or just a little off, the problem might not be the coffee—it could simply be the ratio.
A good starting point for drip coffee is about 1–2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of water. From there, adjust it to your taste.
Like it stronger? Add a little more coffee.
Prefer something lighter? Back it down.
There's no rule saying everybody has to drink coffee exactly the same way.
3. Drink It Fresh
You've made a good pot of coffee. Don't let it spend the next three hours cooking on a hot burner.
Coffee generally tastes best when it's fresh. Brew what you're going to drink and enjoy it while the flavor is where you want it.
If you need to keep a pot around longer, transferring it to a good insulated thermal carafe can help keep it hot without continuously heating it.
Good Coffee Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
Better coffee doesn't necessarily require a new coffee maker or a countertop full of equipment.
Start with good coffee. Use the right amount. Brew it fresh.
Then make it your way.
Black, cream and sugar, vanilla creamer, iced—or whatever gets you moving in the morning.
Wherever the day takes you, start it well.
